Charity for Children
Appreciating what we have, giving back to our community and fighting for a cause we believe in are values we hope to instill in our children. There are many charities out there that need our attention — especially children’s charities — and a small effort on our part has the potential to make a big difference.
We were recently touched (and amazed!) by the story of one dad who will fight to raise money in his twins’ memory — his daughters passed away at only 11 and 13 days old due to premature births.
Raising money for HOPE for Children, Adrian May will attempt what is thought to be the “toughest marathon on earth” — a 151-mile run through the Sahara desert.
The dedication this father has to keeping the memory of his girls alive is heartwarming. We were inspired, and have gathered a list of some local and national children’s charities that need help.

Why are we blessed with our 15 week old twins? We were lucky enough to find out pre-pregnancy that my husband and I are both carriers of the Cystic Fibrosis gene. We have a 1 in 4 chance of conceiving a baby with CF. So to eliminate any risk, we went through pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and IVF, where we received embryonic testing for CF. 2 healthy embryos were implanted and I delivered 2 healthy babies, Alexandra and Joshua. We went through the same procedure with our 2 year old daughter, Ruby, who is also healthy. Unfortunately not enough people know to get tested for genetic diseases prior to pregnancy, often they find out too late. CF is a horrible disease that effects the lungs and gastrointestinal systems, and the average lifespan is only 40 years. As a result, we have become huge supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a great charity that helps CF patients live a better life.
On a side note, we are also huge advocates for genetic testing. In MA, most insurances do cover it. Depending upon your ethnicity, you may be more at risk for different diseases. But CF is a disease that can be carried by any Caucasian, so it has the potential to effect a lot of people. We would love the opportunity to share this info with your readers if you would like to publish an article about it. If so, please contact me either via email or at . Thanks!
