It may only be February, but when we wake up and hear the birds chirping outside, it triggers a little bit of spring fever here in the household. Oddly enough, southern New England has seen very little in the way of winter and snowfall has been at an all-time low. Even the temps have been manageable. With February vacation right around the corner, and ideal weather (fingers crossed) continuing, there’s not much else to do than to get outdoors for some fresh air.
With a few good ideas and light jackets, your twins will surely welcome the thought of stepping outside, even if it’s right out the front door. Remember sidewalk chalk? For kids, the colors and ability to draw on something other than paper is enthralling. And, it leaves a pretty portrait in your driveway. Sidewalk chalk is also helpful in setting up classics like hopscotch and four square. Bringing the playground home is easy and can be done for only $4 a bucket. Of course, you always have good ‘ole tag and hide-and-seek. And kids are funny — they usually think they’re hiding when they’re really in plain sight. Play along!
Feel like heading out somewhere? Trampolines are a fun way to jump off some steam and get a little crazy if your twins are older; perfect before settling down for dinner and the evening bath. A long bike ride is also something the entire family can do together (helmets, please!). Thinking about going out for the day? A trip to the zoo is always at the top of the list. Packing a picnic then stopping off to see the tigers and bears will be unforgettable for the tots.
No matter what activity you choose to do, if the nice weather continues and the birds keep chirping, there’s nothing better than being outside.
Stay tuned for a local roundup of local activities to keep the younger ones busy during February break.
